What is Love???

[Erica]: No, I'm not going to quote cheesy lyrics from the song "What is Love", I'm going to express my feelings and ideas on this subject. Which by coincidence happens to be Valentines weekend as well!

What is love? I think the best description of love is found here in 1 Corinthians 13. I'll let you do your own home work here and look it up for your own interpretation. But I will comment on verse 13- "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

If all these happen to be great, why IS Love pointed out as being the "greatest of these"?

Well, looking at it from a strictly Biblical/ married point of view, I would have to say these next few verses clearly define why love is the greatest of these.

John 3:16 - Because of Love, the ultimate sacrifice! Do you love someone this much?

Deut 6:5 - But really read verses 1-9. If you love someone, you will teach others about that love, and you will memorize every little detail about them.

Prov 10:12 - Love is eternally forgiving!

John 15: 9-17 - True love is friendship, is serving one another, with nothing expected in return!

Mark 10:6-9 - Love = Marriage, is leaving one's family and becoming "one" with your husband or wife.

(Parental discretion advised for the following scripture. For married/ engaged eyes only!)

Song of Solomon 1-8 - This sounds more like a Shakespearean play than something you'd find in the Bible. I LOVE God's sense of humor. I think He threw this in as a curve ball for all those who deny the Bible has nothing to say about love or romance... This is so much more open, straight to the point, and visually stimulating than any play boy or maxum... Yet, God calls it wonderful, lovely, and perfect within the union of marriage! =D

For all those looking (or wondering) what the perfect wife looks like try this next verse.
Prov 31:10-31 - Please note- NO HUMAN female can ever fulfill every single one of these verses and still be completely sane afterward. But it is a godly standard which all should work toward and with the love and support of a godly husband, it can be easier to obtain even a few of these attributes.

Ecc 4:9-12 - Love is friendship in working together :).

Eph 5 - Yes, the WHOLE chapter! Love is marriage, love is walking naked and unashamed in the light of Christ, walking in wisdom. Love is, Christ and the Church (body of Christ, the Bride).

For the kiddies.
Eph 6:1-4 - Love is children. Obedience to parents, mirroring the obedience of us to our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ.

I'm sure there are many many more scriptures to be found that may bring about a deeper meaning of Love than even I have found in my short time writing this post. But these are just a few to wet your whistle and keep you searching ;).

Bendiciones and Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
